SCIENCE NEWS

Science... the fun starts here

The 6th grade teaches Earth science, 7th grade life science, and 8th grade physical science. All classes are CP (college prep) designated, except our Honors Physical Science in 8th grade. There are no Honors science classes at 6th or 7th grade. The 8th grade Honors class is for students who have a high interest in science as a career and want to be advanced in science. The Honors program is taught as 9th grade Physical Science and students who maintain an “A” OR “B” will advance to Honors Chemistry in 9th grade at N.P.H.S.

Lab/Hands-On Program. All students have the opportunity to do science labs on a frequent basis. This includes our special education and ELD students. We have received grants from Amgen and other businesses to purchase equipment and fund our lab programs. Parents also can make donations at the beginning of each school year to provides funds for consumable items needed, such as food coloring, vinegar, baking soda, salt, toothpicks, marshmallows, gumdrops, push pins, pipe-cleaners. We invite you to come visit us in lab -- just call call the main office to leave a message for your child's teacher(805-498-3617).

Please help Mother Earth
and
RECYCLE

In all science classes the teachers offer incentives to recycle and help fund the many activities we do in class. Here are our recycling programs:

Recycle aluminum and plastic CaCRV cans and bottles. Just turn them in to your science teacher. We usually prefer them in bags of 100. You can also turn in the receipts the recycling machines give you for credit.

Laser and Ink Jet toner cartridges and cell phones. Empty cartridges and no-longer-needed cell phones can be turned in to your science teacher. We have so far earned five video projectors, a visualizer, computer system, two printers, digital camera, as well as ink cartridges and projector bulbs for our department. We are one of the top 50 recycling schools in the nation from FundingFactory.com

Boxtops for Eduation. The science department collects General Mills, Ziploc, Betty Crocker, etc. Boxtops for Education to raise money for science. Turn these in to your science teacher. We recently had a big push and with the help of several parents we doubled our money through the Boxtops from Target program.
