ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

Regular attendance is essential to successful school achievement. Community expectations for job success require regular attendance and promptness. When a student is absent, parents should call the office that morning to inform the school attendance clerk, Mrs. Gerdes (805.498.3617 ext. 1004).

Any absence not cleared by a parental note or phone call within 72 hours becomes truant, and will result in a Saturday Work Study being assigned.

When coming to school late or returning to school after an absence, students are required to report to the office with either a note from a parent/guardian, or a prior phone call. The note must include the following information:

• Current date
• Dates(s) of absence
• Reason for absence
• Parent/Guardian signature

Students who are absent without parental permission are truant. Once students arrive on campus, they are not to leave or they will be considered truant. Class work missed due to the truancy may not be made up. Parents will be notified of any verified truancy, and a parent/student conference will be held. Saturday Work Study will also be assigned for every absence that is considered truancy.

TARDY POLICY

All students are to be in class in their assigned seats when the tardy bell rings. Unexcused tardies will result in the following administrative action:

1. The third tardy will result in a detention and notice to the parent/guardian.
2. The fourth tardy will result in a detention.
3. The fifth tardy will result in Saturday Work Study being assigned and the School Attendance Review Board Letter #1 mailed home.
4. The sixth tardy will result in Saturday Work Study being assigned and the School Attendance Review Board Letter #2 mailed home.

An unexcused tardy of more than thirty (30) minutes will be considered a period truancy and treated accordingly. The accumulation of tardies will start over at the beginning of each trimester, for disciplinary action, however, the School Attendance Review process will continue throughout the school year as tardies/truancies continue to occur.
